The heart of JailBreakers’ mission is our On-the-Job Training Program – a workforce development model built on opportunity, accountability, and real work experience. Participants who have completed stabilization begin the program through mentorship and service work, eventually entering internship and formal training. Once completed, participants are eligible for JailBreakers’ On-the-Job training program.
Through this progression, they gain culinary training, daily structure, and the confidence that comes from meaningful work. Participants gain sought-after industrial culinary experience, opening higher level opportunities as they move forward in their career paths. Participants also develop positive habits, discipline, teamwork, and reliability that employers value in every industry.
Participants enter FreedomWorks after facing years – sometimes a lifetime – of barriers that have limited their ability to gain job skills or careers. Histories of incarceration and addiction often create cycles of relapse and reoffending, leaving many men without the work experience, confidence, or support needed to move forward. By the time they reach JailBreakers, they have already done significant work through recovery, life-skills development, service and internship, and personal accountability to earn the opportunity to step into employment.
Under the guidance of experienced leadership, participants work in commercial kitchens serving real clients and fulfilling real contracts. Not only do they build practical culinary skills, but they develop marketable skills and work history – helping them to begin creating a different future.
